The Desi Apprapadenim

Description

This project was created by me and my team as an entry for Kyoorius Young Blood Awards 2024. Though we didn’t win, the experience was incredibly rewarding it allowed us to experiment, collaborate, and explore new possibilities in design. Our idea, Apprapadenim, reimagines denim by blending traditional Indian handcrafted textile techniques with the modern appeal of khadi fabric. The goal was to celebrate India’s textile heritage while bringing indigenous craftsmanship into a contemporary context. In execution, we designed and developed a convertible denim pant prototype that can be worn in multiple ways from flared to straight or cargo fits. With detachable pockets and replaceable patches, each piece allows for easy customization and personal expression. The prototype was handcrafted and brought to life through a shoot that highlighted its versatility and cultural inspiration.
